A First Look at Antwerp Fashion Alum Shone Puipia’s 2019 Collection + Expo

“I’ve learned to trust my gut”, then-graduating Master student Shone Puipia told KNOTORYUS in the very first independent Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp Fashion Department Magazine 2016. It seems that was the best call for the young designer to make. In the following 3 years, you’ve probably wishlisted a pair of shoes from Puipia’s much-discussed footwear label ‘Adult. Antwerp’, co-founded with fellow grad Raphaële Lenseigne (who is now running the brand as creative director). In 2017, Shone Puipia launched his namesake contemporary luxury line based in the designer’s native Thailand. His 2019 collection ‘The Brighter World’, was presented in early August to press and invitees, showcasing a colour- and print-laden collection for all gender expressions.

Key beauty looks were created by highly talented make-up artist Cécile Paravina and featured literally eye-catching velvet appliqué looks. The bags and shoes drew special attention, with all their mohair and feather sensuousness (crafted by local artisans) and jewel-toned hues. Working by appointment only, Puipia’s seasonless designs are produced made-to-order. It’s always fascinating to see where Antwerp Fashion Department grads decide to venture when school is over and Shone Puipia is another name to keep close tabs on, as he steadily makes fashion a brighter world.
