Of course, you can decide for yourself what exactly the ‘mirror’ is Perfume Genius is singing about. But my hunch is that it’s the screen we carry with us all day, every day and even at night, “taking focus off the horizon”. In the video, the main character moves through several incarnations, passing through tenderness, lust, an apocalypse, violence and despair. How many of those have you lived through while scrolling today? How many mirrors do you pass through on an hourly basis? Lots of questions. But my favourite ones are, as always, asked by the artist himself:  

"Can I get off without reliving history
And let every echo just sing to itself?
Can I move on without knowing specifics
While memories hum like a hive shaken out?”
