Yesterday, MIA released a new video on her Twitter but it wasn’t very clear whether this was an official new track or not. The Fader, inexplicably resorting to actual journalism, called MIA’s people to find out ‘wha gwan?’. (That’s how I imagine The Fader people talk to MIA’s people.) Turns out, it’s a protest song against The New York times, who touted Sri Lanka as the new ‘it’ holiday destination. (MIA’s parents were (are?) heavily involved in the Tamil Tigers – Sri Lanka conflict.) So yes, it’s official. Watch the video after the jump.
It’s a light and breezy track, which is not what I expected when I heard Rusko ("The Human Bass Tornado") was going to be working on the new album, due out this summer.
