My expectations for the new Patrick Wolf material were pretty high. Snippets leaked from the studio were incredibly varied and Mr. Wolf seemed to think of the double album 'BATTLE/THE BACHELOR' as his all-out, balls-to-the-wall, love-me-or-leave-me pièce de résistance. The major labels dropped him. German noise-punk Alec Empire from Atari Teenage Riot was brought in to produce. His management dropped him. His new management dropped him... So then Patrick started his own label and fans were able to buy shares and invest in the next album. I was bracing myself when I hit play, but still this video for 'Vulture' managed to produce unexpected levels of shock and awe. In the first three seconds alone, we see the man/boy chained, bare-assed, bound and gagged and whipped about in leather, after which he goes all Marc Almond on us in what appears to be a spandex suit with major cleavage.
