‘Post-epileptic’, that’s how Belgian London-based photographer and videographer on the rise Marie Wynants describes her imagery. She’s worked hard to establish her own visual aesthetic of disjointed beauty, and her early years training as a dancer and international studies (Miami Ad School Hamburg) shimmer through in the polished images she makes. At 23, she has already shot several high-profile award-nominated videos and editorials for breakout artists like Oscar & The Wolf and Bazart and she just wrapped a video and photo campaign for famed leather goods maisonDelvaux. The self-described ‘playful voyeur’ landed another coveted fashion slot earlier this year: shooting the official backstage images for Ann Demeulemeester at Paris Fashion Week. The newly opening HAVN Gallery in Antwerp took stock of this bubbling ascent and decided to host Wynants’ first full-fledged photo expo of her most standout work as their inaugural exhibition.
