Five Instant Mood-Lifters To Watch Online

Five Instant Mood-Lifters To Watch Online

So, we’ve all been cast in the bleakest reality show ever, ‘Hanging With Miss ‘Rona’, and time is nothing but an illusion at this point. You could stare into the distance counting quarks, but there is so much more on Beyoncé’s Internet for you to enjoy. But what to tune into this weekend?

1. Tyler Mitchell’s ‘Night At The Cinema’ Free Live Stream (Friday May 15)

By popular demand, globally feted image-maker Tyler Mitchell returns with ‘𝒩𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉 𝒶𝓉 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒞𝒾𝓃𝑒𝓂𝒶 Vol. 2’ (had to give you the official font). The second edition of his online film festival is probably the last, so don’t miss. The overall theme is ‘Sanctuaries’ and includes a gorgeous list of short and feature-length films (including Gordon Parks’ ‘The Learning Tree’) as well as presentations (hi Solange, hey Kelsey Lu and Grace Wales Bonner!), artist interviews and ‘random content’. Just head to https://icmyfg.com/ on Friday May 15 from 1-11 PM EST.

2. ‘Martin Margiela: In His Own Words’ Documentary

We’ve already given you the what's what on all you need to know about the stellar ‘Martin Margiela: In His Own Words’ documentary, and it bears repeating that you can now organise your very own at-home screening of the film. Just head to www.dalton.be if you’re Belgium-based (or check out more info streaming in our full article). As someone who is quite clued in on Margiela’s life and times, there were still plenty of surprises for me to gasp at and the commentary from the legend himself is nothing but priceless. Stay very tuned, as the film’s director & creator Reiner Holzemer will be a joining Dominique on The Most podcast very soon. What?!? Yes, really.

3. VERZUZ on IG Live: Nelly vs. Ludacris (Saturday May 16)

(c) Getty - Jeff Kravitz

These VERZUZ battles, as organised by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, have Black Twitter/Instagram living lately and it’s not hard to discern why. Bite into some more throwback gold - after Jill Scott and Erykah Badu did the damn thing (and garnered more than a billion impressions) - as Nelly and Ludacris take up the gauntlet on IG Live. It’s St. Louis versus Atlanta. Worth staying up for till 7 PM EST if you’re not in the U.S! Follow VERZUZ on IG to tune in.

4. ‘Euphoria’ Free Zoom Beauty Tutorial

Production on season 2 of ‘Euphoria’ may be halted and I may or may not have stifled a scream about that fact with a purple hoodie, yet HBO’s hit TV show still manages to inspire in the interim. The make-up is basically an additional cast member at this point, and there’s no time like the present to get creative with your face beat. The show’s star make-up artist Kirsten Coleman will lead a free one-hour session on May 15. When ‘sold out’, there will be re-runs (or drop-outs), so keep a perfectly wing-lined eye out!

5. ‘Twenties’ by Lena Waithe

(c) BET

Lena Waithe’s ‘Twenties’ is a BET Original series that centres around aspiring screenwriter Hattie and her friends Nia and Marie as they all struggle and pursue their big L.A. dreams. Partly based on the Emmy Award-winning creator’s own journey to success, ‘Twenties’ is the perfect coming-of-age, intersectional quality content to spend some time with this weekend. Hattie’s Patti Labelle T-shirt alone should convince you. Watch it on BET Online, Apple TV or Amazon Prime.

All set! And as you heard on The Most podcast recently: just do no harm, we’ll get through this together. Follow all health and safety guidelines. These kids in 2040 need to hear about this era and how we defeated a global pandemic by… staying home. Support your local frontline worker initiatives, artists, service providers and fave entrepreneurs. Check in regularly on loved ones. You’re doing so great, friend!
