The TDE label is doing their bit to ease the corona virus lockdown in many ways. Behind the scenes, by picking up a month’s rent for senior citizens in the Watts area, and front and center with a steady trickle of highly anticipated releases, including new material by Ab-Soul and Isaiah Rashad. The newest dose of sonic balm comes from SiR. “John Redcorn” is a parody of “King of the Hill” with the Black Hippy cast stepping in as the animation’s main characters. (Jay Rock as Boomhaur, Kendrick Lamar as Hank Hill, Ab-Soul as Dale, ScHoolboy Q as Bill and SiR as John Redcorn.) Also, SiR is underrated. Aside from clever lines like “dream girl got me losing sleep”, his classic croon combined with straightforward raw bars like “I really hate that I give a fuck” deserves more accolades.
