Belgian design marvel Glenn Martens, creative director of Y/PROJECT, needs little introduction at this point. Here’s a reminder of a few of his accomplishments and accolades though, just in case:
- Graduating first in his class from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp Fashion Department
- Working as a junior designer for Jean Paul Gaultier as a master student
- Collaborating with Honest by Bruno Pieters & WEEKDAY
- Launching the ‘Glenn Martens’ line in 2012
- Taking the helm as Creative Director at Y/PROJECT in 2013
- Winning the ANDAM Prize worth 250.000 euro in 2017
- Designing the sophomore DIESEL Red Tag Project in 2018
- Creating looks favoured and worn by icons like Beyoncé, Rihanna and Solange
As a designer, Glenn Martens has clearly made his mark on contemporary fashion with independent furor. Therefore, on March 11 2020, Martens will be speaking as part of the 5th Maarten Van Severen Chair series, an initiative by The Maarten Van Severen Foundation, with the support of MoMu - Fashion Museum Antwerp, KASK Ghent, Design Museum Ghent and Miry Concert Hall.
Glenn Martens is also set to work with students from European art schools during a masterclass in the same week. Reflecting on the commonalities between groundbreaking furniture designer & interior architect Maarten Van Severen and his own work, Martens is sure to drop some nuggets during his lecture for you to run with.
UPDATE: Our own Dominique Nzeyimana will hold a live Q&A with Glenn Martens after his lecture.
Tickets go for as little as €5 for students and €7 for non-students, so purchase with the quickness.
