We’ve watched Brussels-based MC Zwangere Guy grow so much over the past couple of years. Following his excellent 2017 mixtape “Zwangerschapsverlof 3”, he recently got signed to Universal and will be releasing his official debut in 2019. The first track to drop is the intensely personal gut-punch “Gorik Pt. 1” about growing up with domestic abuse and living with the guilt and revenge fantasies as an adult, trying to do better. The video by Joe Vanhoutteghem is not an easy watch, with graphic scenes of violence and humiliation throughout. But this what you do if you’re a real artist: you get the chance to say something and you show the world what you’ve been afraid to show yourself all of your life. Powerful stuff. Glad he’s being picked up on national radio and getting noticed abroad thanks to the TopNotch crew. Can’t wait to hear the new album.
